I’m all for protecting the little guy from corporate bullying, but the guy is clearly just domain squatting like an asshole. If he actually did anything for his business I might be inclined to side with the “poor fella.” But it’s pretty clear the website only still exists to spite Nissan.

I never understood why domain squatting is a bad thing. If someone ones a domain name, and you want it tough. Pay up or quit complaining. There is nothing inherently different than buying a piece of land and refusing to sell it to wally-world when they want to put up a huge super market/we-sell-everything store.

I read the back story, apparently this Nissan guy has dealt with computers and operated a business called using his surname before Nissan was Nissan and they where still sold as Datsuns. At least that is what I read on the internet, so if may or may not be complete b.s.

If that’s the case then I don’t feel bad for Nissan, but most of the time these issues pop up in the news it seems it’s guy who owns the domain complaining that whatever company wants it won’t pay him enough. Not that any of this really matters any way.

Actually, there should be a story about that site. The guys last name was Nissan, and he sold cars back when they were still called Datsuns. He then started a computer company with Nissan in its name back in ‘91. Nissan the auto company, in ‘99, sued Nissan the guy to restrain him from using his own last name in his company. That’s like McDonalds not letting people use the last name McDonalds for their restaurants. I’m supporting the little guy here. He may be sitting on the domain name now, but I’d be too mad at Nissan to give it up.

someone else pointed this out the other day , i had a look at the timeline and laughed at the shit Nissan Motors USA is/has pt him through.

but Mr. Nissan got it first , so Nissan Motors USA need to stump up a ton of cash or just accept it.
